Before you look for the perfect job, write a CV / Resume or apply for a job, you need to do some research. Researching yourself is the key to finding the job that is right for you.

Your Strengths and Weaknesses

The first thing you need to do when starting the job-searching process is a self-assessment of your own strengths and weaknesses. The process will help you identify the skills, qualification, experience, knowledge and personal characteristics that employers are looking for.

You may use a mind map to analyse your strengths and weaknesses.

Your Qualifications

In Australia, at all stages during the job application process you will need to be able to describe your academic qualifications clearly in English.


If you are from overseas, you have to find out whether your qualifications and skills are recognized in Australia.

What qualifications do you have?
What did you go to university?
When did you graduate?
What types of career are common for people with your qualifications?
Which of your qualifications is most likely to impress a future employer?

For example:
I graduated from The University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Arts in 2008.
I have a Bachelor Degree of Education from The University of Hong Kong. This qualification is assessed as comparable to the education level of Australian Bachelor Degree
I have a Diploma of Leadership and Management. It is assessed as comparable to the education level of an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Diploma.
